The pots in this show represent my love of nature and our mother earth.
Indeed, they are earth, elementally mixed with air and water. Then…… fire.
I prefer simple forms over elaborate, quiet over loud, understated….earth color glazes…
Most of the vessels in this show are hand built by coiling, pinching. Then by the use of wooden tools, mallets and anvils, I thin and compress the clay, gaining strength and losing some weight. This process also leaves a great texture.
I like to make marks on my vessels. Random, quickly drawn, splashes, drips, drops of iron oxide and copper. I’ll pick up and use anything for a brush. I’m happy to use materials that I gather myself. Wood and plant ashes and clay for slips and glazes for example.
I like my pots to be completely integral, form and surface and not be representational of, say, a landscape. I want them to be the landscape.
